English-language guidebooks to ski touring, ice climbing and hiking in Norway: Troms and the Lyngen Alps, Lofoten and Vesterålen, Narvik, Sunnmøre, Romsdal, Sunndal, Hemsedal and Svalbard. Twelve are ski touring guides, three cover ice climbing, and four cover hiking, summer activities and photography.

Northern Norway

Ski Touring in Troms by Espen Nordahl covers 116 summits from Malangen and Kvaløya to the Lyngen Alps, the Kåfjord Alps and Senja. First published in 2010, the latest edition adds new routes, better maps and Senja. The Lyngen Alps by Sjur Nesheim and Eivind Smeland covers skiing, climbing and trekking on the 1,500 km² peninsula at 69° north. Ski Touring in Lofoten and Vesterålen, also by Nordahl, describes 75 mountains where you can start skiing at the water's edge; Lofoten – Skiing in the Magic Islands by guides Jonas Dahlstrup and Thorbjørn Enevold is a second Lofoten guide, in limited stock. Ski Touring around Narvik by Mikael af Ekenstam covers 82 mountains and six traverses on both sides of the Norwegian–Swedish border.

 

Western Norway

Ski Touring in the Sunnmøre Alps by Stig J. Helset and Håvard Myklebust covers the mountains around Hjørundfjorden, Austefjorden and Storfjorden. Ski Touring in Romsdalen by Halvor Hagen guides you to 50 summits in Skorgedalen, Isfjorden, Innfjorden and Trollstigen, and [Couloir and Steepskiing in Romsdal] by David Lindgren, Kilian Jornet and Bjørn Kruse adds more than 120 steep lines with toponeige grading. Ski Touring in Sunndal by Trygve Sande and Tore Meirik covers 88 mountains where 1,200–1,800 metres of vertical is the norm.

 

Hemsedal and Svalbard

Ski Touring in Hemsedal by mountain guide Jørgen Aamot describes 42 summits and more than 100 descents at the head of the Hallingdal valley . Ski Touring in Svalbard] by Giovanni Poli is the first ski book about Spitsbergen, with 101 summits.

Safer Ski Touring in Norway by Espen Nordahl and Erlend Sande describes 111 Norwegian mountains where you can stay out of avalanche terrain. On average five to seven people die in avalanches in Norway every year, most of them ski touring, and a disproportionate number are visitors. This is the English edition of Trygge toppturer, used by thousands of Norwegian skiers since 2016.

 

Ice climbing 

Arctic Ice Climbing by Christian Dramsdahl covers ice north of the Arctic Circle, from Bardu and Spansdalen to Møysalen and the 700-metre Skredbekken. Romsdal – Selected Ice and Winterclimbs] by Asgeir Rusti and Bjørn Kruse is a selection of Romsdal's ice and winter routes. Hemsedal Ice by Bjørn Kruse and Jørgen Aamot describes more than 100 ice and winter routes with GPS positions, in Norwegian and English.

 

Hiking and summer

 Arctic Hikes by Siri Vilberg and Stian Vilberg Hallén describes 55 day hikes around Tromsø, Kvaløya, Senja and the Lyngen Alps. The Sunnmøre Alps covers skiing, hiking, climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, surfing and paragliding in Sunnmøre, five to fifteen trips per activity. Norway, naturally by Trygve Sunde Kolderup is the English edition of Norske Perler, a journey to mountains, islands and places to stay around the country. Arctic Moments is photographer Rune Dahl's book from Lofoten, Vesterålen, Harstad, Narvik and Swedish Lapland, with a foreword by Kristin Harila.
